Early Days

Parenting Workshops for parents of children aged 0-6 years

The Early Days workshop is for parents and carers of young children under school age who have recently had a child diagnosed on the autism spectrum, or reffered for an assessment. The workshop is for parents who are in the "early days" of their journey through the assessment and diagnosis process.

The introductory workshop will cover:

  • what your child's autism means for you and your family.
  • how the everyday things you do as a parent can make a difference to your child's development.
  • why its important to support your child's development as early as possible.
  • how to get the most out of services for children with autism and make decisions about which interventions will best support your child's development.

In addition to the introductory workshop, Early Days also run a number of skills workshops that cover topics such as behaviour management strategies or developmental concerns.

Parenting Workshops for parents of children of school age

The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relationships or (DEEWR) is responsible for delivering two initiatives under the package which aim to foster productive partnerships between schools and families to improve the educational outcomes of children with an ASD. The initiatives provide:

  • Workshops and information sessions for parents and carers to assist them to work with their child’s teachers, school leaders and other staff.
  • Professional development for teachers, school leaders and other school staff to build their understanding, skills and expertise in working with children with an ASD.
  • Positive Partnerships (AAETC) will deliver the workshops Nationwide.  The aim of the workshops is to equip parents with:
  • information on the most up to date information about ASD and how this directly impacts on your child’s learning at school;
  • an understanding about the processes and strategies for effective parent, school, teacher partnerships;
  • information about your local school system’s processes to support learning at all stages of the educational pathway; and
  • opportunities for you to network with other parent/carers and local support personnel.
