RESEARCH

Autism Spectrum Disorder attracts a lot of research interest around the world and there are several Journals devoted to publishing research findings.

How do we support Research?

In Victoria, there is a lot of research being done by students and clinicians interested in Autism Spectrum Disorders. Autism Victoria encourages and supports this valuable work. One of the ways we do this is via the Autism Spectrum Disorder Research Reference Group, currently chaired by Associate Professor Cheryl Dissanayake of La Trobe University.

The Reference Group convenes an Annual Research Forum which is held in November each year. Click here for the 2009 ASD Research Forum Proceedings.

9TH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER RESEARCH FORUM

The Call for Papers is now open for the 9th Annual ASD Research Forum! The event, to be held on Thursday 4th November at Darebin Arts Centre, Preston, provides an excellent opportunity to hear about Autism Spectrum Disorder research currently being undertaken by Victorian research teams, including that undertaken by undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Click here to download the Call for Papers.

The day will provide an opportunity to share common interests and concerns in the autism research field.  It will be suitable for all autism researchers, including students, clinicians and autism educators, as well as parents interested in Victorian autism research.

Please note that the forum will focus on research matters, and participants should have a reasonable knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorders and research methodology.

More information, including how to register, will follow in the coming months. To be added to our mailing list to ensure you don't miss out, please contact Lia Castorina at lia.castorina@autismvictoria.org.au

THE OLGA TENNISON AUTISM RESEARCH CENTRE

The Research Centre for Autism Spectrum Disorders has been renamed in recognition of the major initial donor. Dr Cheryl Dissanayake has been appointed as the Director.  The Board has representation from academic and community specialists, and will work in partnership with Autism Victoria and other appropriate state and federal bodies.  Thus while community based, the Centre will also have a national focus. The Centre was officially opened in June 2008.  For further details visit their website.

How can you help?

An important part of research is the participants - the families and individuals who answer questionnaires and take part in trials and share their experiences.

Autism Victoria has established a 'Research Participant Register' of families and individuals willing to participate in research projects.  If you would like to be part of this register, please go to the Get Involved section of this webpage and fill out the form at the bottom of the page.

If you are a Researcher and would like to access the Research Participant Register, please download and fill out this form, and send it to Josephine Barbaro, j.barbaro@latrobe.edu.au.
